Well, hello there.
For inspiration, I dabble with the guitar, play a good game of tennis, spin some rare grooves, and occasionally doodle. Oh, and what’s more inspiring then getting professionally groomed by these two gents. (if you think you’re seeing double, you are) And there is Aya, who is quite literally the mother of all my inspirations.
The creatives behind the creative
I find it hard to talk a lot about myself in these about pages, so instead I attribute all my success to these key figures in my life, who helped shaped me into the creative I am today. Their life’s work, still lives in everything I do.
Joe Stanley was a legendary producer at Dailey for 25 years. So many memorable spots have gone through his office, where he had a big round table where we all gathered to make shit happen, actually most of us were distracted by his toys he had laying on there. He had an amazing sense of humor and wit. He would show me all the places he sneaked in a prop shit in a good number of the commercials he worked on.
Dennis Hodgson was my first creative director mentor who I had the pleasure of sipping many Cognacs with. He didn’t just teach me about being an Art Direction, but how to treat others in the same boat with dignity and respect. Together, we produced my first campaign with the now infamous stop motion animation studio Laika. I absolutely adore anything and everything that comes out of that studio, so it was a dream come true.
Mike Whitlow was my professor in Bookshop and also for the Long Beach BFA graphic design program. He helped me and countless students get their portfolios together and land their first gigs out of college. He was generous with his time, where most of his classes went well into the wee hours of the night. Back in the college days, we had a class assignment abroad. He immediately saw the value in the opportunity and gave everyone in class a buck to put towards the trip. I cherish those human moments of generosity.
I miss you guys, dearly.
